M. B. Lamar Middle School is proud to announce that Band Director Ms. San Juanita Rodriguez has been selected as the Southwestern Division recipient of the 2025–2026 Dr. William P. Foster Project Community Development Award, one of the most distinguished recognitions in music education.

Presented by the Music Education Alliance, which includes Music for All, the National Band Association, and the College Band Directors National Association, the Dr. William P. Foster Project honors band directors who demonstrate exceptional commitment to serving students in underserved or under-resourced communities. Recipients are chosen for their dedication, innovation, and measurable impact on students and families through the power of music.

Ms. Rodriguez’s selection reflects her outstanding leadership and the transformative growth of the M. B. Lamar band program under her guidance. Known for her high standards, student-centered approach, and unwavering belief in the potential of every child, Ms. Rodriguez has created a program where students feel supported, challenged, and proud of their accomplishments.

As part of this prestigious award, M. B. Lamar Middle School will receive instruments, accessories, clinicians, and subscriptions that will directly benefit the school’s growing band program. In addition, Ms. Rodriguez will be recognized nationally and will share her story along with the story of M. B. Lamar Middle School with music educators across the country.

Colleagues describe Ms. Rodriguez as a tireless advocate for her students, often going above and beyond to ensure they have access to quality instruction and memorable experiences in music.
