M. B. Lamar Middle School’s 8th graders took a major step toward their future as counselors from J. W. Nixon High School visited campus to meet with students and complete pre-registration for the 2026–2027 school year. The process allows students to begin planning their high school course selections, extracurricular activities, and academic goals, setting the foundation for success in the years ahead.
“This is an exciting and important time for our 8th graders,” said Ms. Pineda, 8th grade counselor at Lamar Middle. “Pre-registration gives students a chance to start thinking critically about their academic paths, explore new opportunities, and feel prepared as they transition to high school. It’s a big step toward independence and responsibility.”
The visit also provided students with guidance and insight into what high school life will entail, helping them make informed decisions about their schedules and involvement in clubs, sports, and fine arts programs. Beyond course selection, the experience builds confidence and encourages students to take ownership of their education as they prepare to enter a new phase of their academic journey.
For many, it is a moment of reflection as well, highlighting the growth and maturity they have shown since stepping onto campus as 6th graders. With the end of the school year approaching, Lamar Middle celebrates their students’ achievements and looks forward to seeing them embrace the challenges and opportunities of high school with excitement and readiness.
