Some of our 7th grade students from M. B. Lamar Middle School recently had the exciting opportunity to participate in a GEAR UP field trip to Texas A&M International University for the Tomorrow Starts Today event, where they were introduced to college and career pathways in a real university setting.
During the visit, students explored the Teaching and Training Program of Study and learned what it takes to pursue a career in education. They toured campus facilities, engaged in interactive learning experiences, and gained valuable insight into the preparation, dedication, and opportunities involved in becoming future educators. This experience encouraged students to begin connecting their current interests and academic choices to long-term goals and future careers.
GEAR UP facilitator Mrs. Espinoza shared, “Opportunities like this allow our students to see beyond middle school. When they step on a college campus, they start to believe that higher education is possible for them, and that their dreams are within reach.”
Students were able to ask questions, learn from university staff, and experience a glimpse of college life, helping them build motivation and awareness as they continue their academic journey.
We extend a special thank you to Mrs. Espinoza for coordinating this meaningful experience and supporting our students as they explore future pathways.
We are proud of our Lions for representing M. B. Lamar Middle School so well and for taking an important step toward their bright futures.
