It was an action-packed, unforgettable week for 8th graders at M.B. Lamar Middle School as the campus celebrated both National GEAR UP Week and 8th Grade Homecoming Week at the exact same time.
Throughout the week, students participated in energetic dress-up days and hands-on career and college readiness activities. Lions showed off their future aspirations by wearing their favorite college t-shirts and brought high energy to campus during superhero dress-up day.
The excitement carried over into Report Card Night, where parents and families gathered for a special GEAR UP presentation focused on post-secondary planning and future opportunities.
GEAR UP is designed to support long-term academic success. At Lamar Middle School, the initiative focuses on empowering the Class of 2031 by providing academic resources, college and career planning, and smooth transition pathways to high school and beyond.
Central to the week's success was the teamwork between GEAR UP Facilitator Mrs. Espinoza and 8th Grade Homecoming Sponsor Mrs. Belmonte.
"Seeing our 8th graders engage so enthusiastically with their future plans while enjoying Homecoming Week shows just how bright their futures are," said Mrs. Espinoza. "Our goal is to ensure every Lion feels supported, prepared, and excited for high school and whatever comes next."
The combined events brought an incredible boost of school spirit to the entire 8th-grade class.
"Homecoming is all about creating lasting memories and celebrating our Lion pride," added Mrs. Belmonte. "Watching our students come together, participate in the dress-up days, and show such enthusiasm for their school community made this week truly unforgettable."
With a successful week in the books, the Lamar Middle School Class of 2031 continues to build a strong foundation for future achievement both in and out of the classroom.
