M. B. Lamar Middle School officially launched its annual Red Ribbon Week campaign with a campus-wide kickoff assembly centered on substance abuse prevention, healthy decision-making, and student advocacy.

The event featured guest speaker Thomas Lares, who delivered an engaging address to the student body on the importance of making positive life choices, resisting peer pressure, and building strong personal character.

As part of the kickoff events, the campus recognized the winners of this year’s Red Ribbon Week Essay Contest. Students were tasked with writing original essays reflecting on personal responsibility, overcoming challenges, and committing to a drug-free lifestyle.

Top honors were awarded to:

  • 1st Place: Melody-Love Pozas

  • 2nd Place: Deborah Hernandez

School counselors emphasized the role that student voice and community support play in reinforcing drug awareness programs throughout the school year.

"Red Ribbon Week is about empowering our students with the knowledge and confidence to make healthy choices for their futures," said campus counselor Mr. Diaz. "Hearing an inspiring message from Mr. Lares and reading the powerful perspectives shared by students like Melody-Love and Deborah reminds us how dedicated our Lions are to leading positive, drug-free lives."

The kickoff assembly marks the start of a week filled with campus spirit themes, classroom discussions, and pledge commitments aimed at promoting student wellness and community safety across M. B. Lamar Middle School.
