The Laredo Police Department paid a special visit to MB Lamar Middle School today, partnering with the school’s GEAR UP Program to host a hands-on Mock Physical Agility Event for students interested in careers in law enforcement.
Officers from across the department-including the Recruitment Division, the LPD Explorer Program, the Fitness Unit, and the SWAT team-assembled to give students an authentic preview of the physical and mental stamina required in police work. Students tackled agility courses and practical fitness drills designed to test their endurance, teamwork, and problem-solving skills under pressure.
Beyond the physical challenges, officers used the platform to deliver a message on personal responsibility, staying drug-free, and exploring positive future career pathways.
"Our goal was to show these students what it takes to serve, while reinforcing the importance of making good choices early in life," representatives from the Laredo Police Department shared. "We want them to know that law enforcement offers real opportunities to make a difference right here in our community."
The department extended special gratitude to GEAR UP Program Facilitator Ms. Claudia Espinoza and the staff at MB Lamar Middle School for coordinating the event. With strong student turnout and high energy throughout the day, local officers expressed optimism about the next generation of public servants...hoping to see several participating Lions proudly wearing the LPD badge in the years to come.
