Halloween brought a strategic twist to M. B. Lamar Middle School this week as students traded spookiness for strategy at the annual Halloween Chess Tournament. Lions of all skill levels stepped up to the board, delivering impressive performances driven by focus, sharp tactics, and sportsmanship.
After several rounds of intense competition, four Lamar Lions earned top placements in the tournament standings:
1st Place: Giancarlo Mendiola
2nd Place: Venice Gonzalez
3rd Place: Gabriel Garza
5th Place: Andy Obijo
Beyond the top finishes, school organizers commended every student who took part for their dedication and competitive spirit.
"Our Lions showed incredible focus, patience, and strategy throughout every single round," said Principal Valdez. "Chess requires tremendous discipline, and seeing our students represent Lamar Middle School with such pride and determination makes our whole campus community proud."
Congratulations to Giancarlo, Venice, Gabriel, Andy, and all of our participating Lions on a fantastic tournament! Keep making great moves!
