Checkmate! LISD’s named its top chess players after a fierce competition this past Saturday at the LISD PAC in the Dr. Marcus Nelson Conference Center. The LISD Fine Arts Department hosted an All-Star Chess Tournament for the district’s All-Star chess players. The top 10 winners were recognized with either a trophy or medal for their accomplishments.

Last Friday, the M. B. Lamar Lions 7th grade cohort had an awesome experience as we welcomed former NY Giants player Keith Davis as our guest speaker! He shared a powerful motivational message about making good choices, overcoming challenges, and being the change you want to see in yourself and others.
Our Lions were inspired by his story, his honesty, and his encouragement to stay focused on their goals and future. Thank you, Mr. Davis, for taking the time to pour into our students and make such a positive impact!

🚫🎒 Reminder for all Lamar Lions families: For the remainder of the school year, students will not be allowed to bring backpacks or Chromebooks to school. 📌 8th grade students will bring their Chromebooks and chargers ONLY to turn it in to their homeroom teacher. The following items are NOT allowed: • Backpacks • Gym bags • Large purses/bags ✅ Small personal lunch bags will still be allowed. Possible questions parents may have: • “How will students carry their supplies?” Students should only bring essential items that can be carried by hand or kept in a small lunch bag if needed. • “Can students bring a purse?” Only small personal items/lunch bags are allowed. Large purses and bags are not permitted. • “What if my child still has their Chromebook?” 8th grade students will turn them in to their homeroom teacher on the designated collection day. • “Will this apply every day?” Yes, this will remain in effect for the rest of the school year. We are so proud of our 2 amazing students, Karoline Mancha & Philipp Lira who participated in an essay contest coordinated by Communities in Schools, and were selected as finalists out of 1,700 essays across several middle schools in Laredo 🌟 We appreciate the courage it took for each student to share their story and speak on the impact violence has had on their lives and communities. Their voices matter, and their words have the power to create awareness, inspire change, and encourage others to speak up. We hope this experience continues to empower them to advocate against violence in their communities and reminds them that their stories can truly make a difference. 💚
